Great content creation really does begin with strategic planning. One way to ensure more success is to think ahead and focus on seasonal content planning as early as possible. For instance, photographing holiday content during the holiday season doesn't give you ample time to post, promote, and maximize sales. Instead, planning 2 to 3 months in advance can give you a significant edge.
Why Plan Ahead?
Planning your content ahead of time allows you to:
- Maximize Visibility: Search engines like Google need time to index and rank your content. By planning, you give search engines ample time to discover and prioritize your posts, improving your chances of higher visibility.
- Ensure Timely Promotion: Seasonal content is most effective when promoted at the right time. Advanced planning ensures your content is ready to go live when your audience is most interested.
- Capture Seasonal Trends: Planning early gives you the opportunity to capture and capitalize on emerging trends before they peak.
Haven’t started? No worries. Pick a day and just start there. Here is my tried-and-true quarterly breakdown for seasonal content planning:
Quarter 1 (January - March):
- January: Plan for Valentine's Day and early spring content. This includes recipes, printables, and crafts.
- February: Focus on St. Patrick's Day and early Easter content. Start thinking about spring-themed ideas.
- March: Begin planning for summer content. Look for trends and summer-themed ideas, such as outdoor activities or early vacation planning.
Quarter 2 (April - June):
- April: Plan for summer content, including BBQ recipes, outdoor fun, and early back-to-school ideas.
- May: Focus on summer holiday content, including Memorial Day, and start planning for fall. Consider seasonal crafts and recipes.
- June: Prepare for back-to-school season and autumn. Begin scouting for rare finds and unique items for winter holidays.
Quarter 3 (July - September):
- July: Shoot and prepare back-to-school content, autumn recipes, and Halloween ideas. Summer is a great time to find rare thrift treasures and plan for the winter holidays.
- August: Focus on holiday content for Thanksgiving and early winter holiday promotions. This is a good time to finalize Halloween and autumn content.
- September: Plan and start shooting holiday content for Christmas and New Year's. Prepare content for holiday sales and promotions.
Quarter 4 (October - December):
- October: Prepare for winter holidays and New Year's. Finalize and promote holiday content.
- November: Focus on holiday shopping guides, festive recipes, and year-end reflections.
- December: Begin planning for the new year, including goal-setting content and fresh starts.
Benefits you can look forward to:
- Increased Efficiency: By planning, you streamline your workflow and reduce lastminute stress.
- Enhanced Engagement: Timely content reaches your audience when they're actively searching for seasonal ideas.
- Boosted Sales: Well-planned and timely content can drive higher engagement and sales, especially when tied to seasonal trends. Gain a competitive edge over others by selling and promoting while many are still busy creating or preparing to start.
