Living Ancestors: Honoring Stories Across Languages and Borders

Living Ancestors: Honoring Stories Across Languages and Borders

Dreamcolor Creative Studio supported the development of Living Ancestors, a multi-language publication created to illuminate and celebrate the lives and contributions of Catholic Sisters across Africa.

The project is connected to the Watawa wa Taa initiative, launched in Nairobi to bring greater visibility to Sisters serving in communities across the continent. Through storytelling and documentation, the initiative highlights leadership, faith, and lived experience that often go unseen, yet deeply shape local communities.

This international publication brings together voices from multiple countries, serving as a meaningful record of experience and service. Developed across English, French, and Portuguese, the work required close coordination across contributors, translators, and design support.

Our role focused on shaping the content into a cohesive and accessible reading experience across each edition. Care was taken to maintain clarity, consistency, and the integrity of each narrative while ensuring the publication felt unified across languages.

Accessibility was also an important consideration. In addition to print and digital files, we developed a web-based flipbook version to make the publication easier to view and share. This approach supports readers who may face challenges downloading large files and allows the content to be experienced more simply across devices.

The process was deeply collaborative, requiring flexibility and attention to detail at every stage. Contributors, translators, design partners, and the client team worked together to bring each story forward with care.

Living Ancestors reflects a broader effort to document and share the experiences of Catholic Sisters across Africa - women whose presence and leadership continue to shape their communities in lasting ways.

Our studio supported content structuring, layout and formatting across multiple language editions, coordination across materials, and preparation for both digital and print distribution.

This project reflects the kind of work we value with an emphasis on collaboration, thoughtful content, and a firm grounding in real stories.

If you’re developing a multi-language publication or working across teams and regions, we’d be glad to support your process.
